Applications for the Makatec Spiral Heat Exchangerin exemplary sizes, as developed for miscellaneous requirements.
An untapped source of energy At last the enormous energy reservoir of the sea can be economicall used as an energy source for heat pumps and for recooling for air conditioning and climate control systems. The combination of the Makatec plastic heat exchanger and a standard heat pump makes it possible to use corrosive liquids like sea water which so far have been ignored to date as heat sources. This development is also very interesting in relation to water from rivers, wells, hot springs and to waste water. The use of a Makatec heat exchanger as the defining feature of a system enable huge, prviously unavailable energetic and economic advantages. The picture shows a Makatec hat exchanger from the SP-XL series, developed for volume flows > 1.6 m³/h.
System separation between ground water and heat pump evaporator At the ground water brine heat pump of a two familiy house, the evaporator was corroded and leaking after almost two years of operation. A water analysis revealed a high concentration of iron in the ground water, with a pH < 7; therefore, the ground water is slightly acidic. A Makatec heat exchanger was installed as a system separation between the groundwater and the heat pump evaporator. On the basis of its resistance to acidic mediums and its insensitivity to abrasive materials, its purpose is to protect the evaporator. In this way it is still possible for the customer to cover his heating energy needs with the "warm" groundwater. He does not need to switch to annother, less effective heat carrier (air, for example). The modification was carried out without a problem. The ground water is connected to the heat exchanger through an already existing pump. The heat exchanger is incorporated into the water circulation of the heat pump throuhg a second pump. Using standard ports there is no great expense. In this case a coupling comprised of six connected Makatec heat exchangers was used (see picture).
Cooling of Sterilisers In this case the makatec heat exchanger is used to cool the sterilisation liquid in a steriliser. The greatest advantage here also lies in its corrosion-free nature; it is not attacked by corrosive working fluids in the steriliser. An added advantage is the insulation effect of the heat exchanger cover: when the temperature in the steriliser falls to between 6 and 12°C, the outer surface of the heat exchanger is still above the dew point. There is no condensation on the outer surface and the heat exchanger does not need supplementary insulation. In this case was a Makatec heat exchanger of the SP-500 series applicated. This heat exchanger is planned for smaller vollume flows up to 0.5 m³/h (right). The SP-1600 series is used for medium volume flows up to 1.6 m³/h (left).
More application examples for Makatec spiral-wound heat exchangers Makatec spiral wound heat exchangers are used wherever conventional heat exchangers made of copper or which are nickel or copper-soldered reach their limits. Below some examples:
Perspectives of future productsMakatec Apparate GmbH develop a high temperature (HT) heat exchanger in order to provide heat exchange at highest requirements regarding chemical resistance and elevated temperatures above 100°C. The Makatec HT heat exchanger is applicable in pharmaceutical manufacturing, biotechnology and in the food industry. Future developments are heat exchangers which are mainly designed for the heat transfer between liquids and gases as well as for their application as a condenser and evaporator. |
